Rob Mathews:  Landon, thank you for your time.
Landon Adler:  You’re welcome.
Rob Mathews:  First off, what made you want to come to Ball State?

Landon Adler: Really, the players. I came and visited and I just felt really comfortable with all of the players. The fact that it was close to home. It’s about an hour from home. It makes me feel more comfortable, I guess, because I’m from a small town. It allows me to stay close in case I need to get back for anything. Besides that, the players and coaching staff are great.

Rob Mathews:  What other schools were recruiting you?

Landon Adler: I had like preferred walk-ons at Indiana and Purdue. I had offers from Wright State, Wisconsin Green Bay, prep school for Butler, Indiana State, schools like that.

Rob Mathews:  How has your foot injury progressed?

Landon Adler: It’s doing really well. We’re actually ahead of schedule.  I’m starting to do mobility stuff and it’s going really fast, so hopefully I’ll be back before you know it. They told me ten to twelve weeks after surgery and it’s been three weeks since surgery, but it’s going fast so it’s hard telling (on a timeline).

Rob Mathews:  What areas of your game and conditioning did you work on over the summer?
Landon Adler: A lot of it was just the knowledge part that I worked on. The mental game, mental toughness, because I noticed when I came in here I just really didn’t know as much about the game as I thought just by playing open gym and stuff during the summer. I worked on the strength a lot in the weight room. Defense was another thing I worked on a lot this summer. I know that I need to work on a lot more.

Rob Mathews:  Who is your favorite NBA player?  Why?
Landon Adler: Kevin Garnett, for sure, because he’s kind of like the player I want to be. He’s a big guy that plays wherever he wants basically. He’s a versatile, agile, 6-11 guy that can do everything. That’s kind of the way I want my game to be.

Rob Mathews: How have you been able to fit in on the team?  How is the chemistry so far?
Landon Adler: The chemistry seems good.  If someone screws up someone can correct him and it’s taken the way it should be – just as help.  I think I’ll fit in well.  I just know that I need to work hard to catch up on what I’ve been missing and just stay tough.

Rob Mathews: In what ways do you expect the college game to be different than high school?

Landon Adler: It’s definitely a lot more physical.  I’ve noticed that in just the little bit of play I’ve had with these guys…and practice is a lot more physical than that.  That and spacing seems to be huge – the different points on the floor and where you need to be to make something work.  In college you’ve got ten big guys.  It’s different, in high school you’ve got ten guys but not as much size.

Rob Mathews:  In what ways do you look to contribute this season?
Landon Adler: Really I’m just going to have to do what I’m asked to do.  I know rebounding.  I led the state in rebounding last year, and when I was being recruited last year coach made the point that rebounding was going to be huge for me.  I’m definitely not going to be an offensive go-to guy as a freshman.  So rebounding and defense – just hold my own and be another strong link.

Rob Mathews:  Of your group of newcomers, who is the best three point shooter, rebounder, defender, passer, ball handler?  It is ok to name yourself.

Landon Adler: Three-point shooter, I would have to say myself.  Probably a mix-up between me – I haven’t really seen Bass rebound – and Anthony Newell can really rebound.  Defender, that would probably be Bass, because when I did see him play that was one thing I did notice.  Passer, that would probably be me.  Ball handler, that would be Anthony Newell.

Rob Mathews:  Tell the fans one interesting fact about yourself.

Landon Adler: I really like to cook.  I’ve always liked to eat.  I love to cook and make good stuff.

Rob Mathews: What school topics interest you?  What’s your major (or possibilities)?

Landon Adler: I’m undecided right now, but I like health-type stuff - the body.  I want to tie it into sports – athletic performance stuff, athletic training.

Rob Mathews: What do you like to do when you’re not practicing or studying?

Landon Adler: When I get a chance, I love golf.

Rob Mathews: Landon, thank you for your time, welcome to the Cardinal family, and best of luck this season.

Landon Adler: Alright, thanks.
