FROM BALL STATE ATHLETICS COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING

MUNCIE, Ind. --  Stephen Jones (Bethalto, Ill./Civic Memorial H.S.), a 6-foot guard, has signed a national letter of intent to attend Ball State University and compete for the men’s basketball program, according to BSU head coach Tim Buckley.  The national signing period started today.
“Stephen is a program guy,” Buckley said.  “He has all the qualities a coach is looking for -- character, toughness, competitiveness.  He is also an outstanding shooter.  I saw him on several occasions this summer make five-or-more three-point field goals in a game.  Stephen is a multi-sport athlete and I always love those guys that bring a toughness from playing football to the court.”
Jones is the starting quarterback for Civic Memorial, which is playing this weekend in quarterfinal action of the Illinois State Tournament.  He has passed for over 1,300 yards and rushed for 750 yards.  Jones owns 15 touchdowns this season.
On the court, Jones is a three-year varsity starter and enters his senior season ranked sixth in school history with 1,182 career points.  He is a two time first team All-Area and All-Mississippi Valley Conference selection.
As a junior last season he guided Civic Memorial to a second consecutive 25-5 season after averaging 16.3 points per game and leading the Eagles in assists (5.0) and steals (2.2). He shot 46 percent from the field and 75 percent from the foul line.   Jones recorded 56 three-point field goals and shot 37 percent from the arc.
