Howze Joins Ball State Men’s Basketball Staff (06/12/2006) |

| MUNCIE,
Ind. -- Bill Howze, who was the varsity basketball head
coach at Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington D.C. since
2004, has been named an assistant coach at Ball State
University, according to Cardinals' head coach Ronny Thompson. |
| Howze,
who begins his duties immediately, joins Thompson's first Ball
State staff along with assistant coaches Steve Flint and Troy
Collier, who were each named to their respective positions in
April. |
| "I
am excited about bringing Coach Howze on board," Thompson
said. "He has a wealth of knowledge on and off the court
that I believe will benefit every player on the Ball State
team." |
| Howze,
who taught United States history, world history, psychology and
sociology at Archbishop Carroll, guided the varsity basketball
team to its first winning season in four years in his first year
at the helm. His team improved its record by 10 wins in his
first season and recorded a semifinal playoff finish. He has
coached 12 players who continued their playing careers in
college, including Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje who played at both
Georgetown and in the National Basketball Association. |

1994 graduate of the University of Maryland, Howze served as a
social studies teacher and assistant varsity basketball,
baseball and golf coach at Archbishop Carroll from 1995 to 1999.
He was the top assistant for the nationally recognized
basketball program, plus helped to establish the school's golf
program in 1998. Howze was nominated for Who's
Who Among America's Teachers in 1998. |
| Howze,
who has a combined 10 years experience as a coach and
professional educator, held social studies teaching positions at
Jefferson Junior High School in Washington, High Point High
School in Beltsville, Md. and St. John's College High School in
Washington, before returning as teacher and head coach at
Archbishop Carroll in 2004. |
| Howze
and his wife Shirelle have a nine-month old son, William III. |
