  • Before 1921 Indiana State's athletic teams were known as "The Fighting Teachers". In 1922, a short time before the first basketball game between the Ball State Hoosieroons and the Indiana State Fighting Teachers, the nickname was scrapped and replaced by "Sycamores", thus the Fighting Teachers never played the Hoosieroons.
