Vern Smith Award - The MAC's Most Valuable Player Award
The Vern Smith Award is given yearly to the MAC's most valuable player as voted on by the conferences head coaches and selected media members. The Award is named in honor of Vern Smith who was Director of Athletics at Toledo from 1971-1986. The Award was started by the Downtown Athletic Club of Toledo in 1982 as the Jefferson Award.
