2006 Game At Michigan Moving To November (01/10/2006)

FROM BALL STATE ATHLETICS COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING

Ball State University will be changing the date of its 2006 game at the University of Michigan, and open the Mid-American Conference season at home Thursday, Aug. 31, vs. an opponent to be announced.
"This is a win-win situation for Ball State University and its football program," BSU head football coach Brady Hoke says. "We will open the conference season at home on a Thursday night, which is an outstanding opportunity for our alumni, fans and football team. The excitement generated on this campus by Thursday night games has been outstanding. In addition, we will still have the opportunity to play at the University of Michigan this year, which is one of the greatest collegiate sports venues in the country."
Ball State’s football game at Michigan was originally scheduled for Sept. 2, but will be moved to Nov. 4, to accommodate Ball State’s home opener and to allow Michigan to schedule Vanderbilt Sept. 2.
In addition to opening the season at home with a league game, Ball State will host Indiana University Sept. 9. The home game with Indiana will mark the first time the Hoosiers will play football at Ball State. The two teams met for the first time ever in 1997 and then again in 1999, both games were played at IU. The game at Michigan will mark Ball State’s first-ever game at Michigan Stadium and first-ever against the Wolverines. Michigan Stadium is the largest collegiate football stadium in the country with a seating capacity of 110,000.
"We are very pleased we were able to work this out to allow our team to open the season at home," Ball State athletics director Tom Collins says. "We appreciate the work by all schools involved to get this accomplished."
