  • The Cardinals seemed to have the momentum during the first few series of the game which were played mostly in CMU territory. A freak wind aided 78 yard punt turned the momentum against the Cardinals and pinned Ball State deep in their own territory. The Cardinals went three plays and out on that series and when CMU got the ball back they scored their first touchdown. CMU attempted a two point conversion but failed.
  • CMU could have lead by more at halftime, but the Cardinals intercepted a pass on the two yard line with the Chippewas threatening to score. Having thwarted the CMU scoring threat, but backed up against their own goal line, BSU turned to veteran mistake proof QB Joey Lynch to guide them out of peril. Joey promptly threw an interception. Things turned out OK however when CMU kicker Rick Albreski missed a 30 yard field goal. Nate Davis threw an interception on the next Ball State possession but Central ran out of first half time before they could mount a serious drive.
  • The half ended with BSU down only by 6 points.
  • CMU scored on their first second half possession, but the Cardinals stopped another CMU two point conversion to keep the score at 12-0.
  • The Cardinal offense finally got rolling on BSU's first second half possession scoring on a 1 yard Brad Salyer touchdown run. Brian Jackson's PAT made the score 12-7.
  • BSU stopped CMU on the Chip's next series and appeared ready to take control of the game. Another miss judged punt bounced off B.J. Hill's leg and was recovered by the Chippewas at the Ball State 8 yard line. CMU scored a touchdown two plays later but missed the PAT.
  • On the next series Ball State mounted a 66 yard drive that took them to the CMU 1 inch line, but the Cardinals failed to score on 4th down and inches with only 6 minutes left in the game.
  • Ball State would get the ball one more time but that drive ended after two plays when Nate Davis was sacked and fumbled the ball away.
