MUNCIE, Ind. -- Brian Jackson (Dothan, Ala./Northview H.S.), a senior placekicker on the Ball State University football team, has been named one of 20 semifinalists for the 2006 Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Award, which is presented by the Palm Beach County Sports Institute and Sports Commission.
The Groza Award is in its 15th year and is named for National Football League Hall of Fame placekicker Lou Groza who was a part of four NFL Championships with the Cleveland Browns and was named the NFL Player of the Year in 1954. The three finalists will be honored at a banquet Nov. 20, and the winner will be announced Thurs., Dec. 7, during the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show in Orlando, Fla.

Jackson, who was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Special Teams Player of the Week last week, has made 11-of-12 (.917) field goals this season and connected on 29-of-30 (.967) extra point attempts. He made a season long field goal of 52 yards vs. Indiana plus made a 50 yarder at Miami University last week. Jackson’s career long field goal is 54 yards, which he made last season at Northern Illinois.

Jackson kicked two extra points at Miami University last week to give him 103 in his career, which ties the Ball State career mark.
Jackson becomes the second Ball State placekicker to be named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award. He follows Brent Lockliear, who was a semifinalist for the honor in 1997.
