The Last Meeting:  Ball State scored first in the game on a 19 yard touchdown pass from Nate Davis to Terry Moss. The score was tied and both halftime (7-7) and the end of the third quarter (10-10). Miami took a 17-10 lead early in the forth quarter on a 1 yard run by quarterback Mike Kokal. The day was horribly windy which reeked havoc on Ball State's passing game, but did help Brian Jackson connect on a 50 yard field goal with 7:02 to play, cutting Miami's lead to 4 at 17-13. On fourth and goal with 1:11 left in the game, Nate Davis delivered a touchdown pass to Madaris Grant, giving Ball State a 20-17 victory over Miami in Oxford in front of an announced crowd of 17,134 attendees.
The Last Meeting In Muncie: The Homecoming Nightmare of 2003 saw the Cardinals suffer (and I do mean suffer) Ball State's worst margin of defeat ever in a MAC game. Ball State only gained 29 yards rushing while quarterbacks Talmadge Hill and Andy Roesch combined for only 153 yards passing while giving up four interceptions. Two of the interceptions were returned for touchdowns. Miami lead 35-0 at halftime. Ben Roethlisberger did a little of everything. He even punted. The future Super Bowl winning quarterback completed 23 of 31 passes for 215 yards and 2 touchdowns. Final Score Miami 49, Ball State 3. The win was the 6th straight victory for Terry Hoeppner's RedHawks who lost their opener to Iowa 21-3. Miami finished the season 13-1 with a MAC Championship and top 10 rating in the final national polls.
