The Last Meeting: August 31, 2006 in Muncie - Ball State 38, Eastern Michigan 20
After trading punches for most of the first quarter, Eastern Michigan grabbed an initial lead on a 6 yard Tyler Jones run which capped a 6 play 88 yard drive. Eastern lead at the end of the first quarter 7-0. The Ball State offense, led by Joey Lynch fired up shortly there after, tying the score on a 15 yard pass from Lynch to Darius Hill. Midway through the second quarter EMU mounted another long drive, this time only resulting in a 20 yard field goal by Andrew Wellock. The Eagle's lead would be short lived. On the next possession Ball State welcomed much anticipated freshman quarterback Nate Davis onto the field for the first time. On Davis' second pass and third play from scrimmage he uncorked a 46 yard touchdown bomb to Louis Johnson to give Ball State the lead with 6:55 to go in the first half. Nate and Joey Lynch would alternate series at quarterback for the rest of the game. Both teams added field goals before the end of the second quarter making the halftime score Ball State 17, Eastern Michigan 13.  After a short and unsuccessful drive to start the second half, Ball State punter Chris Miller pinned Eastern Michigan on their own 10 yard line. After an initial 6 yard gain to push the ball out to the 16 yard line, EMU quarterback Tyler Jones was sacked on consecutive plays by William Wise and Courtlan Booker moving the ball back to the EMU 3 yard line. From his own endzone Eastern punter Andrew Wellock served up a whopping a 27 yard punt allowing Ball State to take over on the EMU 30 yard line. Five plays later Nate Davis connected on the second touchdown pass of his carrier on a 9 yard pass to Dante Love, pushing the score to 24-13 Cardinals. With the vultures circling, Eastern responded with a 10 play drive that stalled on downs at the Ball State 43 yard line. Ball State running back Larry Bostic then uncorked consecutive runs of 25 and 13 yards moving the ball to the EMU 19 yard line. Four plays later Ball State blew the game wide open when Nate Davis recorded his third touchdown pass of the game on a 6 yard strike to Darius Hill. For the game Nate Davis would complete 7 of 8 passes for 108 yards and 3 touchdowns. Ball State lead at the end of three quarters 31-13. In their first series of the forth quarter Eastern Michigan would end their scoring when Tyler Jones hit Eric Deslauriers on a 20 yard touchdown pass. Ball State would also add a touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 31 yard Dante Love run. Final score, Ball State 38, Eastern Michigan 20 in front of a disappointing opening night crowd of only 12,326.

The Last Meeting in Ypsilanti: November 12, 2006 - Ball State 26, Eastern Michigan 25

Trailing 22-0 with 17 minutes to go in the game, senior defensive back David Gater intercepted EMU quarterback Matt Bohnet and returned the ball 30 yards for the first Ball State score of the night. The score would remain 22-7 until Eastern Michigan added a field goal with just under 8 minutes to play in the game. Less than 30 seconds of game time later Ball State found the end zone again when Joey Lynch hit Terry Moss for a 17 yard touchdown reception. Eastern Michigan still lead 25-14. Ball State cut the lead to 6 with 4:38 left in the game when Lynch connected with freshman Darius Hill on a 13 yard touchdown strike. Eastern still led 25-20 though after a two point conversion after the touchdown failed. BSU quickly got the ball back but fumbled the ball away on Eastern Michigan's 41 yard line. Eastern could not put the Cardinals away however and were forced to punt the ball back to the Cardinals with time running out. Larry Bostic blocked the punt and the Cardinals were in business. The final minute of the game would be wrought with chaos and controversy. Eastern appeared to have ended the Cardinal comeback after breaking up a pass play on fourth down from the EMU 30 with 55 seconds remaining. A pass interference penalty however gave BSU new life. Shortly there after, an apparent Ball State touchdown pass was over ruled by instant replay. Finally, with 12 seconds remaining Joey Lynch found Dante Love in the corner of the endzone to give Ball State the lead and the win. Final score Ball State 26, Eastern Michigan 25. NEVER GIVE UP.
