The
Last Meeting: October 21, 2006
in Muncie - Western Michigan 41,
Ball State 27
|
| Nate
Davis started for Ball
State and came out hot
hitting three consecutive
passes of 17 yards or more
to drive the Cardinals
down to the Western
Michigan 20 yard line. The
drive would stall at that
point, aided by a Nate
Davis sack by Western
Michigan's Ameer Ismail.
The Cardinals had to
settle for a 45 yard Brian
Jackson field goal to open
the scoring. BSU
3 WMU 0. |
| Things
appeared to be going well
for Ball State when
Western Michigan fumbled
the ball back to the
Cardinals four plays
later. Nate Davis returned
the favor however on the
very next play, throwing
an interception to WMU's
Londen Fryar at the Bronco
27. Western Michigan would
respond with an 8 play 73
yard scoring drive ending
in a 13 yard touchdown
pass from Ryan Cubit to
Herb Martin. BSU
3 WMU 7. |
| Three
plays into Ball State's
next possession, Nate
Davis would throw his
second interception of the
game to Western Michigan's
Darrell Copeland at the
Bronco 29. Western
Michigan again took
advantage of the turnover
and marched 61 yards in 8
plays, scoring on a 3 yard
touchdown pass from Ryan
Cubit to Joe Chapple in
the final minute of the
first quarter. BSU
3 WMU 14. |
| On
the first play of the
second quarter, Nate Davis
would throw his third
interception of the game.
This one was returned by
Ameer Ismail 30 yards for
a touchdown. BSU
3 WMU 21. |
| On
the next Ball State
possession, Nate Davis was
replaced by Ball State's
grizzled old veteran
quarterback, father time
himself, #9 Joseph Michael
Lynch. Joey would promptly
lead the Cardinals on a 5
play 60 yard scoring
drive, ending in a 7 yard
touchdown pass to Darius
Hill. BSU 10 WMU
21. |
| On
Western Michigan's first
play following the BSU
touchdown, Erik Keys
recovered a fumble by
WMU's Mark Bonds at the
Bronco 38 yard line and
the Cardinals were back in
business. Five plays later
Joey Lynch would connect
with Darius Hill on a 1
yard touchdown pass,
sending the BSU crowd into
a frenzy and further
fueling Ball State's now
heated quarterback
controversy, not to
mention the resentment
level of many in northern
Delaware county. BSU
17 WMU 21. |
| The
two teams would trade
punches for most of the
rest of the first half,
but Western Michigan would
end the brief scoring drought
with an 81 yard touchdown
pass from Ryan Cubit to
Brandon Ledbetter. BSU
17 WMU 28. |
| Ball
State would end an
entertaining, yet
frustrating first half of
action by failing to score
a touchdown after first
and goal from the WMU 1
yard line and settling for
an 18 yard Brian Jackson
field goal. Halftime
Score: BSU 20 WMU
28. |
| Western
Michigan would open the
third quarter with a 7
play 73 yard touchdown
drive ending in a 6 yard
run by Mark Bonds. BSU
20 WMU 35. The
Broncos would later add a
25 yard Nate Meyer field
goal. The third quarter
ended BSU 20 WMU
38. Western Michigan
scoring would end five
seconds into the forth
quarter with a Nate Meyer
41 yard field goal. BSU
20 WMU 41. |
| Ball
State would mount one
scoring drive in the forth
quarter, a 12 play 68 yard
drive ending in a 34 yard
touchdown pass from Joey
Lynch to Terry Moss. Western
Michigan ruins the 2006
Homecoming Game. Final
Score: BSU 27 WMU
41. |
| Ball
State would end the game
with 369 yards of offense,
but only 9 rushing
yards. Joey Lynch
24-30 with 3 touchdown
passes and no
interceptions for 290
yards. Nate Davis 4-8 with
no touchdowns and 3
interceptions for 70
yards. Most of Nate's
production came in the
first three plays of the
game. Nine Ball State
receivers would catch a
pass in the game, lead by
Terry Moss with 5
receptions for 80 yards. |
