Perspective
I woke up in a horrible mood today!  I was disappointed with our team’s loss yesterday and just sick about my personal performance and inability to stay out of foul trouble.   I drudgingly stepped out of bed this morning thinking of the piles of homework I needed to get finished in a day’s time.  After about an hour of work, my cell phone rang, and I saw it was Coach Roller.  I was apprehensive to pick it up fearing she would want to talk about yesterday’s game.  Instead, she delivered news no one wants to hear.  Amy Fuller, an ex-team member was killed in an automobile accident last night.  My heart dropped, and all I could think about was Amy’s husband, Rick, and baby boy, Cordell.  In fact, I had just seen them all at our exhibition game last week.  Such tragedies always lead to the perplexing question: why do horrible things happen to such good people?  I spent most of today praying for Amy’s family and reminiscing about experiences from my freshman year, when Amy was a senior.  I remember Amy as a fun-loving, down-to-earth genuinely caring friend.  Tears welled up in my eyes as I remembered Amy coordinating an effort to saran-wrap the coaches’ cars while they were up in their offices.  And I’ll never forget the infamous trip to Miami !  It’s impossible to comprehend, and I can’t begin to understand God’s plan.  Events like this make us realize all too vividly how fragile life can be and makes us painstakingly aware that we have no idea what the future holds.  A disappointing basketball game and a pile of homework no longer seem important as my perspective readjusts to what is really important in life.  I am thankful that I had the pleasure of knowing Amy Fuller and will continue to keep her family and friends in my thoughts and prayers.
